ACADEMIC YEAR IN GERMANY

With our Academic Year Programme, Stepin offers you a unique opportunity to attend a German school and live with a German family for 2 -3, 5 or 10 months.   The school year in Germany begins in August or September and lasts two semesters.  It is also possible to start your stay even in the middle of a semester. 

The German school system covers 13 years and features three different types of secondary schools.  Most schools in Germany are publicly financed.  Great importance is attached to methodology and discussion in the classroom.  Stepin enrols exchange students in the 10th or 11th grade, depending on age and level of German langauge skills.  The 10th grade features conventional classroom instruction, making it easy to get to know students quickly.  Students in the 11th grade, in addition to compulsory subjects such as German, foreign languages and mathematics, have a choice of elective classes.  Students generally attend class until early afternoon, Monday through Friday.  Instruction is supplemented by extracurricular activities.  School attendance is mandatory and Stepin students should actively participate in their classes.
